Exercise, healthy eating emphasized in Illinois

Associated Press

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Illinois officials are encouraging residents to practice good-health habits during National Public Health Week this week.

The theme this year is A Healthier America: One Community at a Time.

Physical activity is recommended for at least 2 1/2 hours every week. It helps maintain weight, reduce high blood pressure and reduce the risk for Type 2 diabetes and other diseases.

Healthy eating can also help ward off disease. Consumers should have fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fat-free or low-fat milk products, lean meat, poultry, fish, beans, eggs and nuts.
