Illinois gets $1.4M to help Medicare beneficiaries

Associated Press

A program that helps Illinois Medicare beneficiaries learn about their health care choices is receiving $1.4 million in federal funding.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced the grant Monday. The funding for the Illinois State Health Insurance Assistance Program goes toward one-on-one counseling and community-based outreach.

There are 54 SHIP organizations in the United States and its territories.

In Illinois, SHIP is a free statewide counseling service sponsored by the state Department of Insurance.
SHIP is not affiliated with any insurance company and its counselors do not sell or solicit any type of insurance. They are trained to educate consumers and answer questions about Medicare and other health insurance.
