JACKSON, Miss. - Jackson State has revoked the scholarship of point guard Phillips Williams for the 2010-11 season because of his actions during Jackson State's NIT opening round game against Mississippi State.
Head coach Tevester Anderson made the announcement Monday in a release issued by the school.
Williams, a sophomore from Chicago who played at Hales Franciscan, received two technical fouls and was tossed from the game after hitting MSU guard Dee Bost below the belt. The incident was seen on live TV in front of an ESPNU audience.
Williams received an automatic one-game suspension from the SWAC for being ejected from the game over a week ago. The league also fined the university $500.
Anderson says Williams will have the chance to walk-on with the team next year.
Williams played all 32 games this year and averaged 4.6 points and 2.1 rebounds. AP
