Applications for state’s MAP college grants up 37 percent

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Applicants eligible for Illinois’ Monetary Award Program college scholarship are up 37 percent this year.
The Illinois Student Assistance Commission urges college-bound students to move quickly to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid if they want to be considered for a MAP grant.
MAP is a state funded program that offers as much as $10,000 in federal and state grants for college.
More than 168,000 students in Illinois had completed a FAFSA by earlier this month. Those eligible for an award amount to nearly 116,000, a 37 percent increase over the 85,000 who applied last year.
The Illinois Student Assistance Commission helps students of all ages and backgrounds attend college. ISAC issued 186,000 grants last year worth $431 million. AP
