Police shoot man who had knife at child's throat

Associated Press
Authorities say a 25-year-old Chicago man has died after being shot by police while holding a 6-year-old boy at knifepoint.

The Cook County medical examiner's office says Quentin Green died Sunday night after being shot in the chest.

Police officials say officers responding to a call in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood spotted Green with a knife holding the child out of a second-floor window. Officers say they tried to calm Green and entered the apartment. Authorities say officers shot Green after he refused to drop the knife he was holding to the child's throat.

Green was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he later died. The child was treated for minor injuries.

Police say the boy's mother had an order of protection against Green. AP
