Chicago suburbs awarded obesity prevention grant

Associated Press
The Cook County Department of Public Health says it has received a $16 million federal grant for obesity prevention in the suburbs.

The department says the money comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services program called Communities Putting Prevention to Work.

Officials say efforts will include campaigns to raise awareness about issues impacting nutrition and physical activity. The department also will use a competitive grant process to provide money to different communities, schools and other groups. Training also is to be provided.
