Communities of color plan march on National Mall

Defender Staff Report
Organizations from around the country are preparing to make their national presence known - and have their collective voices heard - as they organize to march on the National Mall March 21.
Marc Morial, head of the National Urban League, Benjamin Jealous, CEO of the NAACP, National Council of La Raza, U.S. Reps. Sheila Jackson, D-Tex., and Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., and Cardinal Roger Mahony of Los Angeles are among the speakers tapped for the event that looks to “take bold action in solving the problems that brought us together in voting for change,” a press release announcing the march indicated.
Multi-cultural and multi-faith groups plan to push for jobs and immigration reform, among other concerns.
The day is scheduled to begin with an interfaith service, followed by a rally and culminating with a march.
The theme for the event, which expects to draw tens of thousands of participants and be reminiscent of the 1963 March on Washington, is March for America: Change Takes Courage.
