SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Chicago State University’s president says the school is running out of chances to fix its problems, and some state lawmakers agree.
Chicago State President Wayne Watson told the House Higher Education Appropriations Committee last week that he’ll turn the university around.
Just 14 percent of the school’s students graduate after six years. In comparison, the University of Illinois’ six-year graduation rate is 82 percent.
Rep. Kevin Joyce expressed confidence in Watson, but the Chicago Democrat says the committee is tired of hearing empty promises from Chicago State’s leaders.
