Axelrod on Bernanke job, Emanuel mayor rumors

Associated Press
A top adviser to President Barack Obama says Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has the votes to keep his job.

David Axelrod said Monday that Bernanke should be confirmed because he has provided "strong leadership" through the nation's financial crisis.

Some opposition to Bernanke had started to emerge because of public anger over the economy. But senators have begun voicing support for Bernanke and there's growing optimism in Washington that he'll be confirmed.

On another matter, Axelrod says people should "calm down" about rumors that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel wants to run for Chicago mayor next year.

Axelrod says he expects Mayor Richard Daley to run for re-election. And Axelrod says Emanuel doesn't come to work every day at the White House saying he wants to run for office.
