Quinn establishes state public health advocate

Associated Press
Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn has signed an order establishing a state public health advocate.

Quinn says the advocate will help improve public health through education. He signed the order at a Chicago hospital as part of American Diabetes Month.

Quinn says the advocate will help children and adults get the information they need about diseases like diabetes and asthma.

The position will be part of the Department of Public Health and use existing public health programs, staff and resources.

The advocate will work with local public health agencies, health organizations, colleges and universities and school districts.
