Illinois students still in need of money for the 2009-2010 school year can fret no more.
The Illinois Student Assistance Commission still has $66 million available for low-interest, federally-secured student loans through the Federal Family Education Loan Program, the executive director recently announced.
“As other players in the student loan industry exit, we remain committed to the students and families of Illinois. In fact, we’ve already committed to $44 million in student loans this academic year. We are familiar with the needs of Illinois families and financial aid procedures of Illinois colleges and universities because we’ve been at it for so long,” said Andrew Davis, executive director of ISAC.
The state agency, which has been in operation for more than 50 years, provides students with resources and support to obtain financial aid for higher education. Last year, ISAC issued over 186,000 grants and scholarships totaling nearly $431 million.
