Nearly a dozen arrested in Fenger scuffles

by Kathy Chaney
A series of fights inside Fenger High School on Thursday resulted in 11 arrests, police said.

Nearly a dozen disturbances in the school broke out, mostly in the lunchroom around 11:25 a.m. Motives for the fights haven’t been determined, police said.

No injuries were reported and 11 students were arrested. Nine were charged with reckless conduct and two were charged with aggravated assault, Chicago Police News Affairs officer Michael Fitzpatrick told the Defender.

Tension remains high at the school in the wake of the fatal Sept. 24 beating of 16-year-old Derrion Albert. A melee among scores of Fenger students erupted a few blocks away from the school that day.

Three teens were charged with his murder and appeared in court today.
