Three teens accused of participating in the beating death of a Chicago honor student have appeared in court.
At Friday's preliminary hearing, 19-year-old Silvonus Shannon, 18-year-old Eugene Riley and 16-year-old Eric Carson were formally indicted on first-degree murder charges. Prosecutors say they killed 16-year-old Derrion Albert on Sept. 24.
A cell phone video shows people striking Albert with boards and kicking him as he lay on a sidewalk. Police have described the sophomore at Christian Fenger Academy High School as an innocent bystander caught up in a fight.
The three teens are being held without bail. The judge Friday also set their arraignment for Nov. 10.
Prosecutors dropped charges against a fourth teen earlier this week.
