Oprah Winfrey to tape talk show on Michigan Avenue

Oprah Winfrey has taken over the Magnificent Mile.

The talk show host will tape an episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" Tuesday afternoon on a three-block stretch of Chicago's Michigan Avenue near the Chicago River.

Winfrey will host the Black Eyed Peas to celebrate the kickoff of the 24th season of her show.

The taping is free and open to the public. Harpo Productions says Winfrey expects "thousands" of people to attend.

General admission to the taping begins at noon Tuesday on a first-come, first-serve basis and will close when the event reaches capacity. Harpo Productions says it will cover all city costs for police, paramedics and sanitation.

Michigan Avenue will be closed through 5 a.m. Wednesday, and 15 city buses will be rerouted.
