Chicago attorney running for Senate

A Chicago attorney is running as a Democrat for President Barack Obama's old U.S. Senate seat.

Jacob Meister announced his candidacy Tuesday. Meister practiced law in Chicago for nearly 20 years, focusing on banking regulation, interstate commerce and telecommunications.

Meister says he's entering the race because it's time "to take back Illinois politics from career politicians."

The Democratic field for the Senate seat currently held by Democrat Roland Burris also includes first-term state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias (jeh-NOO'-lee-ehs) and former Chicago Inspector General David Hoffman. Chicago Urban League President Cheryle Jackson says she also plans to run.

Burris says he isn't running for a full term.
