Obama to meet with Egyptian president Tuesday

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama's focus turns to Mideast matters Tuesday when he sits down with his Egyptian counterpart at the White House.

The meeting comes after President Hosni Mubarak's discussions with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday about the stalled Mideast peace talks.

The State Department says Egypt and the U.S. have agreed that all sides in the matter — meaning Israel, the Palestinians and Arab states — need to take "parallel steps" to reopen negotiations.

Following his meeting with Mubarak, Obama will meet separately with Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton.
