ALTON, Ill. — The band director at a southwestern Illinois high school is accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old student.
Madison County prosecutors on Thursday charged 36-year-old Matthew Lang of Godfrey with criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Sheriff's investigators say they began investigating Tuesday after hearing that Lang might have had inappropriate relations with a girl at Alton High School.
Authorities say they later confirmed Lang had sex with the student more than once at school during school hours.
Lang is jailed on $250,000 bond.
A message left at his home Thursday seeking comment wasn't returned.
