An Illinois woman accused of leaving her newborn baby to die in freezing weather in 2004 has been arrested in Kansas.
Kansas City's FBI fugitive task force members helped arrest 28-year-old Katie L. Stockton Wednesday at an extended-stay hotel near Merriam.
After the newborn baby was found in rural Illinois in a white trash bag on Dec. 17, 2004, residents in Rockford, Ill., named her Baby Crystal and organized her funeral. An autopsy showed she died from exposure.
A police squad recently reopened the case and focused on Stockton. Winnebago County, Ill., authorities filed charges Monday and got a tip Tuesday night that Stockton might be in Merriam.
