ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Officials are urging thousands of people who ate at a McDonald's restaurant in northwestern Illinois to get either hepatitis A vaccine or immune globulin immediately.
People who consumed food or beverages at the McDonald's in Milan (MY'-luhn) from July 6-10 or July 13-14 will be treated free Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Rock Island High School.
Rock Island County Health Department spokeswoman Theresa Foes says a McDonald's employee with hepatitis A worked on those dates and may have been infectious.
The virus can spread when an infected person hasn't practiced thorough hand washing after using the restroom.
At least 20 cases of hepatitis A have been confirmed in Rock Island, Mercer, Henry, Warren and Woodford counties.
