Two shot near South Side church

Authorities say two teenage boys were wounded in a drive-by shooting near St. Sabina Roman Catholic Church on Chicago's South Side.

Officer Michael Fitzpatrick of the Chicago Police News Affairs office says the two were shot on the street Friday evening near West 78th St. and South Racine Ave. Fitzpatrick says the two ran into the elementary school gym at St. Sabina, which is about half a block from the church.

Adults at the gym administered first aid and called 911.

The two wounded youths were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where one was reported in critical condition Friday night and the other was reported in stable condition.

St. Sabina's paster, the Reverend Michael Pfleger (FLAY'-ger), is a longtime activist against gang violence.
