Ill. State, EIU extend football rivalry

NORMAL, Ill. — One of Illinois' oldest college football rivalries will get a little older under a new deal signed between Illinois State and Eastern Illinois.

The two Football Championship Subdivision schools have extended their contract by a year, agreeing to keep playing through 2013.

Illinois State and Eastern have played 97 times since 1901. Illinois State leads the series with 50 wins. Eastern has won 38 times, and the teams have tied nine times.

The Panthers won last year's game, 25-21.

The teams will meet this season on Sept. 3 at Eastern.
