Siretha White’s killer gets 75 years

by Kathy Chaney
The man convicted in the 2006 murder of 10-year-old Siretha White was sentenced Thursday to 75 years in prison.

Prosecutors said Moses Phillips, 23, fired shots at a rival gang member on March 11, 2006 in the 2000 block of West 70th Place but missed his target. Instead, a bullet struck White as she enjoyed a surprise birthday party for her and another relative. She would have turned 11 years old two days later.

The volley of bullets pierced the structure of the home the girl was in. As Siretha ran to seek refuge in the back of the home, she was shot in the head, according to police.

The slain girl’s mother, Siretha Woods, is Phillips’ godmother.
