The Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies will be
patrolling Chicago Area Expressways to ticket dangerous drivers and reduce
fatal crashes.
Fatalities on the expressways are higher right now than they were in all of
2008. The Illinois State Police say this year's death rate has broken the
five-year decline.
Officers will drive marked and unmarked vehicles, in search of the five most
fatal road violations: driving under the influence, speeding, improper lane
usage, following too closely and unfastened seat belts.
Motorcycle enforcement bureau units and covert vehicles will also be
dispatched.
Photo traps will be used in construction zones.
