Rush gives award to father of teen slain on bus

A Chicago man who became an anti-violence advocate after his son was shot to death aboard a city bus has been named "Father of the Year" by Congressman Bobby Rush.

Rush says Ronald Holt has "turned his pain into promise" and has dedicated himself to being a mentor to young people since the death of his 16-year-old son Blair in 2007.

Blair Holt died after being shot on a Chicago Transit Authority bus as he tried to shield a classmate. Two Chicago men have pleaded guilty in connection with his murder.

Ronald Holt is a Chicago police officer, and his wife works for the Chicago Fire Department.

At a community event Sunday, Holt urged fathers to be involved in their children's lives, saying "a little tough love goes a long way."
