Quinn skips tax talk at business leaders' event

Gov. Pat Quinn didn't mention raising Illinois' income tax when talking to a group of business leaders.

A tax increase is the centerpiece of Quinn's plan to fix the state's budget mess. But so far there isn't enough support among lawmakers to pass it.

While Quinn avoided talking about a tax increase at Thursday's Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce event, he did talk about a statewide capital construction bill passed by lawmakers.

But Quinn didn't mention that he's said he only wants to sign the capital bill when lawmakers pass a balanced budget with a tax increase to avoid $9.2 billion in cuts.

Chamber leader Jerry Roeper kidded Quinn, saying he had a pen if the governor wanted to sign the capital bill.
