Bears think of Vanderbilt as a football school

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Chicago Bears General Manager Jerry Angelo says he admires the commitment of Vanderbilt football players to their academics and conference.

With their fourth-round selection of cornerback D.J. Moore in last month's NFL Draft, the Bears have five former Vanderbilt stars who are likely to be on their roster when they open the season Sept. 13 at Green Bay

Prior to becoming the Bears' GM in 2001, Angelo spent 14 years as director of player personnel for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Tennessean reports the Bears also have an area scout based as Rex Hogan's wife, Christy, is an academic counselor in Vanderbilt's athletic department.

Vanderbilt strength and conditioning coach John Sisk says he hopes Angelo's comments are an indication that the school is developing its program and players.
