Blago lawyer to ask court for campaign fund access

Ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich's lawyer is headed back to court, hoping for permission to tap his client's $2.3 million campaign fund to pay for his defense on racketeering and fraud charges.

Attorneys for the impeached governor and his businessman brother, Robert, were to press their case for permission to tap the fund at a hearing set for noon Friday.

Blagojevich attorney Sheldon Sorosky was not reached for comment Thursday afternoon. But attorney Michael Ettinger, representing Robert Blagojevich, said he understood the now-impeached governor would not be on hand for the session.

Blagojevich is charged with scheming to trade or sell President Barack Obama's former Senate seat and use illegal pressure in an effort to raise campaign contributions.
