In the wake of four robberies near the campus within the last month, Chicago State University has introduced a new measure to help keep its students safe –– RaveGuardian.
The cell phone technology allows students to share critical information in the event of an emergency with the campus police department. The service is free for all CSU students.
On Monday morning, a student reported an armed robbery on 97th Street between Calumet and Forest Avenues, two blocks away from the university’s main entrance on 95th Street and King Drive.
The male suspect demanded money from a female student and took her wallet and cell phone. No arrests have been made.
“Chicago State is one of the safest campuses in the city, and the new technology offered will enhance security efforts for our students,” said Patricia Arnold, spokesperson for the CSU’s University Relations department.
Chicago State is the first campus in the state to use the cell phone software as an emergency device.
Other universities in Illinois may follow suit.
