A fire broke out at the start of the work day Tuesday at a 22-story downtown office building that sent one person to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation.

The small fire was contained to the 14th floor in an electrical room of the Continental and Commercial National Bank Building, 208 S. LaSalle St. The official cause of the fire is still under investigation, said Will Knight, a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department.

By 10:40 a.m., less than an hour after it started, the fire was completely extinguished and employees were able to return to the building.

The fire department did not have to evacuate the building.

“The employees self-evacuated. When we arrived on the scene, employees were already outside,” Knight said.
