A Cook County jury found a South Side man guilty of the shooting that claimed the life of an Englewood girl nearly three years ago.
While trying to hit the intended target during a gang dispute on March 11, 2006 in the 2000 block of West 70th Place, Moses Phillips instead struck 10-year-old Siretha White as she enjoyed a surprise birthday party for her and another relative. She would have turned 11 years old two days later.
The spray of bullets pierced the structure of the home the girl was in. As Siretha ran towards the back area of the home to escape the shooting, she was shot in the head.
Phillips, 22, was also found guilty of the attempted murder of two men, alleged rivals, who were sitting on the porch of the home.
The girl’s mother, Siretha Woods, said, “Justice had to be done.”
