Journey to Empowerment exhibition opens

Defender Staff Report

February 17 was the official reception for the Chicago Defender’s Journey To Empowerment exhibit, held at the South Shore Country Club.

Now in its third year, Journey To Empowerment presents photographic samplings from the archives of the Chicago Defender.

This year’s exhibit features Black performers, many of whom made a point of dropping by the Defender offices during their visits to Chicago.

From Duke Ellington to Earth, Wind & Fire to Chaka Khan and Jennifer Hudson–and even KeKe Palmer, the Chicago Defender

has chronicled the evolution of Black Entertainment.
