Dear Chat Daddy,
I’m a 28-year-old single female. My cousin has introduced me to the notion of dating men who are in prison and I have since met a man who is currently serving a 20-year sentence. Chat Daddy, I find him to be a wonderful man who has made a terrible mistake in life and wants to repent in order to be back in society. Finding a good man has not been easy for me, and I want to know should I wait for him to get out.
-I Will Be Right Here Waiting
Dear I Will Be Right Here Waiting,
Okay, this has got to be a joke. Sweetheart, why in the world would you wait 20 years for a man to get out of prison? There are plenty of good men out here. I would suggest that you seriously take a step back and reevaluate your life, your priorities and character. I understand that dating in these times is hectic and most times full of drama. However, you have to remain optimistic and positive and take heed in the belief and possibility of waiting for the right man to find you––not the other way around. Even if you wait, can you imagine all of the changes you both will go through in 20 years? It seems to me that you are allowing loneliness and desperation to cloud your good judgment and standards. Cut your losses and simply move on. Be encouraged.
