Jackson, Sr, Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown, and others REINSTATING THE CHICAGO SCHOOL BOARD NOMINATING COMMISSION WOULD ELIMINATE THE CURRENT DEBATE OVER THE LACK OF LOCAL INPUT INTO SELECTION OF CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS CHIEF "The current uproar over Mayor Daley's choice of new Chicago Public School's Chief raises the question of whether The Chicago School Board Nominating Commission should be reinstated that used to guarantee local input into the selection process of Chicago School Board Members and School Chiefs. The reason there is the current debate over the educational qualifications of Ron Huberman is that the position is no longer called "General Superintendent" under the old Commission laws and standards that required professional educator qualifications as minimum requirement, before the legislature gave the power to the Mayor and he then took the education requirements out and changes the title of the position from Superintendent to that of Chief Executive Officer. Those who want to ensure a more open and inclusive process should at least ask that there be Educational Committee hearings at the local and State levels to discuss if The Chicago School Board Nominating Commission should reinstated to once again guarantee that the Mayor can no longer make these decisions without input from other major stakeholders who are impacted by the leadership and public policies of the Chicago School Board Members and a General Superintendent, who could also appoint a Chief Education Officer or Chief Business officer.
