Windy City’s Fashionistas–Shawnelle Richie and Pamela Jones, both CBS 2 execs, are among 10 African-American women of Chicago who’ve been named “Best Dressed for 2009” and as such will be publicly saluted by the Society of Mannequins (formerly the Association of Mannequins) during the Annual Luncheon & Presentation on March 8 at Georgio Banquets.
The other eight honorees: Tanya Cloud, of General Electric; Mayor Zenobia Evans, of Riverdale, Ill.; Carolyn Griffin-Palmer, retired CPS principal; Dwette Thompson, of Draper & Kramer; Alma Turner, retired CPS educator; Josephine Wade, proprietor of Captain's Hard Time Dining; Darmille Rush, proprietor of Peaceful Process Document Services; and Dr. Blondean Davis, superintendent of the Matteson, Ill. School District #162 and the Society of Mannequins’ firstever “Woman of the Year” awardee.
Lee Brown is president of SOM, whose membership is comprised of Windy City and suburban fashionistas who have been deemed “best dressed” by their sister peers for three consecutive years. The 10 for 2009 will come together on Sunday at a reception in the Oak Lawn home of Cheryl Marshall Washington.
Elder Talk–Three dynamic voices from the early days of the Civil Rights Movement, Harry Belafonte, Rev. James Lowry and Dr. C.T. resulted in the relocation of the Checkerboard
Lounge from Bronzeville to Hyde Park’s
Harper Court. The Committee, now HPJS,
sponsors CheckerJazz, a Sunday night jazz
series at the New Checkerboard Lounge for
Blues & Jazz, and supports performances by
high school jazz students with a Sunday
