On Tuesday, Hundreds of Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps students from city and suburban schools marched in the Chicago Defender Charities’ 82nd Annual Veterans Day Parade on King Drive to salute all veterans and the sacrifices they made for the country.
“It’s very important for our young people to understand the legacy of the Black veterans, all veterans, before them. They sacrificed so much for this country. Our blood is all over this country and the youth need to honor and recognize it, and pass the legacy on,” Ret. U.S. Army Col. Eugene Scott of the CDC said while standing in front of the Doughboy statue on 35th Street and King Drive.
The statue honors all Negro soldiers in the Eighth Regiment in World War I.
