Addison is runner up on BET’s ‘Sunday Best’

Congrats to Shari Addison, last year’s first runner-up on Black Entertainment Television’s Sunday Best gospel singing competition. Addison became a household name as millions fell in love with her while they cheered and cast their votes each week.

The show, a gospel version of American Idol, was hosted by Kirk Franklin with guest judges Mary Mary and BeBe Winans. It was an instant hit and garnered an audience of more than 1.5 million viewers.

Addison not only captured the hearts of fans and the gospel industry but also a recording contract with Zomba Gospel.

Her upcoming self-titled CD, Shari Addison, is a major accomplishment for the psalmist who is a member of Bright Star Church Of God In Christ on the South Side.

“I am so grateful that God gave me ‘A’ players, anointed producers, for this CD,” said the singer whose project includes the skills of Donald Lawrence, Percy Bady, Kevin Bond and Daniel Witherspoon. “I wrote a song on the CD entitled He Does All Things Well Concerning Me…he knows the thoughts that he thinks toward me…though truth be told they are not always my heart’s desire. I’m telling you, people that know my story have seen me go through some things. They know that I’m gonna take that lickin’ and keep on tickin’…I love God regardless. When you pick it up and put it on…there is something that will meet you for whatever mood you are in,” Addison said. The single, No Battle No Blessing is burning up the airwaves. The CD hits the shelves in January.

The ballots are in and congratulations to Chicago’s Ricky Dillard, Percy Gray, Chicago Mass Choir, Shekinah Glory Ministry, Angela Spivey, Vashawn Mitchell and Darius Brooks and the Tommies Reunion Choir on being nominated for the 24th Annual Stellar Awards. Dillard, along with Marvin Sapp, Beverly Crawford, Dorinda Clark-Cole and Kirk Franklin, received four or more nods in various categories including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Choir of the Year. The awards will be held in Nashville in January. Dr. James Abbington, Executive Editor of the AACMS and Professor of Church Music and Worship at Emory University, will facilitate the New Music Seminar on Saturday, November 1st. Musicians, choir directors, clergy, worship leaders, singers and church music lovers are welcome for this session from the African American Church Music Series published by GIA Publications. A tribute and celebration service will be held for Father John of St. Ailbe Church on November 2.

He is leaving as pastor of the church after 17 years of ministry. He has such a kind spirit and will be greatly missed.

Condolences to Dr. Feranda Williams Nero who lost her sister, Yolanda Nero. Also, prayers to Rev. Slayton Palms and family in the loss of his mother.
