Two days after a 17-year-old boy and his friends got into a brawl Sunday with a few others on 75th Street and Michigan Avenue, he died of his injuries.
Shaun Bowens, a student at Gage Park High School, and his friends had just come from a basketball game when the fight broke out shortly before 8 p.m. He was beat with a brick, hands and feet, police said.
Bowens, of the 5900 block of South Loomis Avenue, succumbed to his injuries Tuesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Police said it does not appear to be gang-related and are conducting a death investigation.
Bowens is the third child to be killed in the last week.
