Cong. Jesse Jackson blasts father’s blooper

Defender Staff Report

On July 9, Rev. Jesse Jackson made some stirring comments about Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., while privately speaking to Dr. Reed V. Tuckson, executive vice president and chief of medical affairs for United Health Group, before a Fox News interview.

Rev. Jackson quickly apologized for his comments where he accused the Democratic presidential hopeful of talking down to Black people and that, as a result, he wanted to remove Obama’s genitalia.

Cong. Jesse L. Jackson Jr., D- 2nd, rejected his father's controversial comments. In a written statement, Cong. Jackson said that he will always love his dad but that he should know how hard Cong. Jackson has worked as national co-chair for Obama’s presidential campaign.

“I’m deeply outraged and disappointed in Reverend Jackson’s reckless statements about Senator Barack Obama,” Cong. Jackson said.

“I thoroughly reject and repudiate his ugly rhetoric. He should keep hope alive and any personal attacks and insults to himself.”
