Our Culture, Our Voice will encompass dances from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean with artistic choreography from Senegal and Chicago.
Senegalese choreographer Babacar N'Diaye will present new works from his vast collection of original dances. The dance will be a fusion of dance styles originating from the regions of Mali, Tambacounda, Guinea Bissau Senegal and West Africa.
Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago performs authentic and progressive interpretations of contemporary and ancient African and African American dance.
Artistic director, Amaniyea Payne, commented that the company's mission is to bring the native cultural elements to a wider audience.
N'Diaye is a former lead dancer for the National Ballet of Senegal and Diamono African Ballet. With his dynamic energy, creativity and powerful movements, he entertains crowds and inspires his dance students.
N'Diaye is now the artistic director of Return to Goree African Dance Company, and he teaches regular classes in Baltimore.
Individuals are invited to join Muntu for an evening of fun and food on the Harris Theater's Rooftop terrace following the concert.
