CHICAGO (AP) — Two men have been charged in the slaying of an off-duty Chicago police officer.
Forty-one-year-old Clifton Lewis was fatally shot during a Dec. 29 robbery at a convenience store where he was working security. He had been on the police force for eight years and took the part-time security job after the store was robbed Dec. 9.
A spokeswoman for Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez tells the Chicago Tribune that 29-year-old Tyrone Clay and 34-year-old Edgardo Colon were charged early Saturday morning with murder while in commission of an armed robbery and first-degree murder of a peace officer. Sally Daly says both men are from Chicago.
