CHICAGO (AP) — ComEd has filed performance metrics
with a state commission following so-called "smart grid" legislation
passed last month.
The metrics focus on improving system reliability
and reducing customer costs during the 10-year $2.6 billion investment plan to
modernize the power grid. The metrics were filed Thursday with the Illinois
Commerce Commission and are subject to review. There are financial penalties if
ComEd doesn't meet the metrics.
Commonwealth Edison Co and Ameren Illinois have
promised to upgrade the electrical grid. They'll then get more streamlined
regulatory structure.
Both utilities have promised that the technology
will reduce the number and length of outages and give customers more control
over electricity usage.
ComEd's chief officer Anne Pramaggiore says it's a
milestone day in Illinois' history of energy policy.
