CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, reacting to
published reports state legislators don't consider him much of a leader, says
it's not his job to be "pals" with lawmakers.
Quinn's comments Monday come days after state
legislators rejected his veto of a bill allowing utilities to raise rate to
finance creation of a "smart grid" electricity network.
In a speech to the Leadership Greater Chicago
Luncheon, Quinn said he won't be a "go-along, get-along" leader,
adding he is proud he vetoed the bill backed by Commonwealth Edison.
Quinn also defended his position on gambling
expansion. He is threatening a veto if lawmakers refuse to remove a provision
allowing slot machines at horse race tracks.
The governor also spoke about the 'Occupy Wall
Street" movement, saying participants need to organize for a cause.
