CHICAGO (AP) — Two nonprofit groups are teaming up
to open a community kitchen in a west side Chicago neighborhood.
AARP Illinois and the Westside Health Authority
have announced the project, which will incorporate cooking classes that teach
participants how to select nutritious, low-cost ingredients and prepare
nourishing family meals.
Organizers say one goal of the community kitchen in
Chicago's Austin neighborhood will be to increase demand for fresh food and
decrease the demand for low-nutrient, high-calorie foods that can lead to
obesity and health problems.
The classes will be appropriate for young people,
families and seniors, with the first class on Oct. 24.
