The
Illinois Health Care Association presented Nancy Smith, LPN, with its Nurse of
the Year award. Smith has been working at Alden Wentworth Rehabilitation and Health
Care Center in Chicago for the past 22 years.
“Nancy is
someone that everyone at Alden Wentworth can depend on,” said Charlene
Hill-Jeon, Administrator at Alden Wentworth. “During the blizzard of 2011, she
stayed at the facility for two days making sure our residents were taken care
of and shifts were covered.”
Known
also for her generosity and warmth, Smith is affectionately called “Nana” by
some of the center's staff and residents. Smith has cooked for some residents
she thought weren't getting enough to eat. The center's management also pointed
out that she often buys residents Christmas presents.
One year
Smith bought as many asy 50 holiday gifts for residents.
She was
honored recently at the 61st annual IHCA convention and trade show in
Peoria.
The award
came after being nominated by the center's staff and then selected by a special
awards task force.
