CHICAGO (AP) — The Black Catholic Deacons of the
Archdiocese of Chicago will conduct back-to-school sunrise prayer services on
Lake Michigan beaches Saturday.
Organizers say they will be praying for students to
have success in the classroom and for an end to violence.
The five separate services will be at 6:30 a.m.
Each will have a different theme.
Participants should bring their own chairs or
blankets. Pay parking is available.
The services will be at:
—Rainbow Beach, where the focus will be on gang
violence.
—63rd Street/Jackson Park Beach, where bullying
will be addressed
—Oakwood/41st Street Beach, where street violence
will be the subject.
—31st Street Beach, where the service will be
conducted in Spanish, and focused on domestic violence.
—12th Street Beach, where racism will be the focus.
