Students get taste of legal system at camp

Defender Staff Report

The “What I did on summer vacation” essays for several students who will begin their frehsman year in high school next school year will detail a three-week stint with the The Illinois Law and Leadership Institute in its law camp. The 21 students from diverse backgrounds weren’t in trouble, they were learning a lot about the field of law.

For three weeks, five days a week, the students were at The John Marshall Law School for the special camp that could prepare them for a law career. The program, which had the students visit courthouses and law firms, culminated with a “moot court” and an opportunity for the students to meet and greet an Illinois Supreme Court Justice, Anne M. Burke.
