PLCCA, along with its founder and president/CEO Bishop Dr. Claude Porter, celebrated its 21st Annual Victor Goodell Memorial Golf Classic fundraiser at the White Pines Golf Club in west suburban Bensenville.
The event
started out with a 9 a.m. shotgun with over 200 golfers in attendance. After
the golfers enjoyed 18 holes, PLCCA moved everyone inside for the award dinner banquet,
which was hosted by Joe Soto, on air personality for V103, and Art Norman,
formerly of NBC5 Chicago, with a live auctioneer, John Davis, radio and TV
personality.
Awards
were presented to Jack Stonebraker (Best Buy) for Outstanding Achievement, and
super lawyer Chis Welch (Sanchez Daniels & Hoffman LLP and board president
of District 209) for Community Image. This year PLCCA wanted to honor the
memory of Dave Duerson and Daryl Hawks. Both gentlemen worked closely with the
organization and believed in its mission to promote community development and
empower people through education, training and supportive services.
The Play
it Safe award was presented to Todd Howard (assistant football coach for
Bolingbrook High School) and the Hawk Vision award presented to David Johnson
who attends Robert Morris University majoring in journalism. In addition to the Hawk Vision award
presented by Deborah Brown, director of Community Relations for NBC5 Chicago,
David was surprised with a $500 scholarship check - which NBC5 Chicago will be
matching. PLCCA's committee member Zara Johnson, who is the current Mrs.
Illinois, presented the $1000 Zara Johnson Scholarship Award to Jerry Williams.
Jerry will be attending Concordia University in the fall.
Bishop
Porter and Claudette Harrell thanked all supporters and sponsors of PLCCA and
looks forward to seeing everyone next year on June 22, 2012 at White Pines Golf
Club.
