Johnnie Savory, an information specialist and paralegal at Rainbow/PUSH, shed tears as he spoke about the 30 years he spent behind bars for a double murder.
Savory –– who was set free
at age 44 –– oversees the Innocence Project at PUSH. Jonathan Jackson is also
over the initiative that focuses on removing the innocent from prison.
Savory said he hopes the
Black press continues to give a voice to the voiceless and “hammer away with
the cases of innocence.”
The project is currently
working on releases for five Black men who were cleared through DNA testing,
among other cases.
