Violinist
Regina Carter and Conductor Kwame Ryan are among the pool of talent selected to
perform at Grant Park Music Festival’s 2011 summer season in Millennium Park.
On Wednesday Carter will perform Billy Childs’ Violin Concerto and a
composition from her most recent CD Reverse Thread (performed without orchestra).
Ryan,
currently celebrating is fourth season with the Orchestra National Bordeaux
Aquitaine, makes his Grant Park Festival debut as guest conductor July 20,
conducting Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 2, Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin and
the Swiss composer Rolf Liebermann’s composition Furioso.
TALENTED
CHILDREN INVITED TO AUDITION for a national tour of A Christmas Story, The
Musical June 27 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the Chicago Theatre. Casting directors
are searching for children age 8-13 with strong voices and excellent speaking
and acting abilities to portray the iconic leading role of Ralphine and his
troupe of friends and classmates.
MICHAEL
ROSS AND TRIO perform live jazz Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. at Chicago’s
Legal Café, 1338 W. Madison St. Ross previously toured with the New York Stage
Production of The Wiz.
THE
ROCKERS, consisting of Eon Trent, Devon Jackson and Diz with host Anika Tene
and Jess Vera, perform the First Wednesday at the Smart Bar, 3730 N. Clark St.
at 10 p.m.
LOOKINGGLASS
THEATRE’S JUNIOR BOARD HOSTS its 10th annual Madhatter’s Ball Saturday in the
historic John Hancock Observatory. Guests will enjoy the celebration 1,000 feet
above Chicago’s picturesque skyline. Proceeds raised will support the
operation, expansion and outreach of Lookingglass’ education and community
programs. Tickets range from $65-$100 and can be purchased at
