BOSTON (AP) — Former ABC news anchor Carole Simpson and Harvard law professor Charles Ogletree are scheduled to highlight a four-day conference aimed at fostering better racial cooperation.
The first annual "National Center For Race Amity Conference" is slated to begin Thursday at Boston's Wheelock College.
William "Smitty" Smith, executive director of the National Center for Race Amity based at school, said the event seeks to bring people together from across the country to discuss the history and ideals of racial cooperation. The conference will consist of workshops, forums, seminars, and cultural events.
Smith said Boston was a good location because if its unique history with blacks, whites and Latinos.
He said the conference was modeled after the first race amity conference held in Washington, D.C. in 1921.
